Mars

I landed down on Mars
Softly
I stepped out of my box
Into the water ankle deep
Beyond the pool of rust
Rippling
The red-orange jagged hills
Were outlined in a perfect blue
I'm breathing
There never was a cage
They said there'd be one
But this is a newer age
My second time here
Opening
The foreign night revealed
Stars that never shown before
I walked along the way
Wondering
Going forward on
The only path we'd made so far
Upon the cliff side
Sitting
Sat a dog and cat
Intent on something colorful
The tiny bright warm sun
Distant
Shown through the only house
Casting shadow cages through the trees
The animals looked up
Smiling
Within their paws
They lifted necklaces they made for me
I'm breathing
There never was a cage
They said there'd be one
But this is a newer age
I step beneath a white
Canopy
I sink my back into
The crowds that part to let Them through
A mass of black coats
Empty
They've come to rule
But this time we're going to have it free!
I'm breathing
There never was a cage
They said there'd be one
But this is a newer age
I'm dreaming
There never was a cage
They said there'd be one
But this is a newer age
I woke up on my bed
Thinking
I called you on the phone
But you were on the phone 'till late
I'll tell you someday
Sister
Just give me one last try
The sun is shining
Brightly
Sinking
